VALUING CAREERS IN NORTHERN IRELAND

On 18th February an event was held in the Northern Ireland parliament buildings in Stormont, Belfast to launch the CDI’s “Valuing Careers” research report in the province. This followed the earlier Careers Development Policy Group (CDPG) main report launch “Unlocking Potential” which took place in the House of Lords in December. The full report can be downloaded here

This event, which shared highlights from the report that were specific to Northern Ireland, was hosted by Moira Doherty, Deputy Secretary of the Education and Skills Group in the Department for the Economy (DfE)and the new Minister for the Economy Dr Caoimhe Archibald MLA. The minister highlighted the importance of good quality careers advice and guidance to the local economy.

Good careers guidance helps people to get on the right path, realise their potential and contribute to the economy

Following the discussions that took place at the event Associate Professor Deirdre Hughes OBE chaired a panel session which included Justin Kerr, Head of the Careers Service in Northern Ireland, David Morgan Chief of the Career Development Institute (CDI), Clem Athanasiou, Director of Apprenticeships, Careers and Vocational Division (DfE), and Gerard Martin a careers adviser based in Strabane, County Tyrone.
