THE ROLE OF PARENTS AND CARERS AND HOW THEY CAN BE BETTER SUPPORTED
This report published in February 2020 has been produced by the Institute for Employment Research (IER), University of Warwick with the support of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and J.P. Morgan.
It provides an evidence-based overview of relevant policies and practices aimed at parents and carers. The main findings highlight the importance of parents/carers in young people’s career decision-making. It states “There is not, however, a significant body of robust literature evidencing approaches that have most impact regarding engagement within CEG programmes.” It concludes schools and colleges could consider supporting parents and young people by: (i) promoting and communicating; (ii) redesigning existing activities; (iii) creating parent friendly environments; (iv) designing new activities; and (v) use technology.
