Office for Students consults on information, advice and guidance about higher education

We are currently developing our strategy for improving information, advice and guidance about higher education. As part of this work, we are exploring development of a new resource to support students with their decision making.

We want all potential higher education students to receive improved and effective information, advice and guidance so they can make the choices that are right for them. We are now inviting feedback on our proposed approach to this aim.

We believe that all potential students should get personalised, high quality and accurate advice to inform what, where and how they study higher education, if that is what they want to do.

Proposals

We know from research with prospective students that there is much more to do to improve in this area. They consistently tell us that they feel the information and advice they receive is not as good as it could be.

That is why we want to:

  • collaborate with a range of partners to improve and join up our advice and guidance work more effectively, to ensure that all different student groups are provided for and the full range of higher education study options are promoted.
  • deliver a new national online information resource that would both provide authoritative, accurate information about higher education and signpost to other sources of information. This would be launched in 2019.

Give feedback

We would now like your feedback on our approach to joining up advice and guidance in this area to inform our next steps.

We welcome feedback from anyone with an interest in the provision of information, advice and guidance to prospective students of English higher education.

We are also interested in the views of schools and further education colleges, government and policy bodies, and others with an interest, such as parents/carers and both prospective and current students.

The deadline for responses is noon on Thursday 31 January 2019.
