SKILLS BILL AMENDMENTS – THE ‘BAKER CLAUSE’ IS NOW LEGALLY ENFORCEABLE

In this article, FE News touches upon highly significant amendments to the Skills Bill and what this means in terms of careers for students.

21st February saw a potentially significant amendment to the Skills Bill, particularly for careers advice and guidance routes for students with the Baker Clause to become legally enforceable (the Baker Clause stipulates that schools must allow colleges and training providers access to every student in Years 8 to 13 to discuss non-academic routes that are available to them). This amendment will ensure that Section 2 of the Technical and Further Education Act 2017, commonly known as the Baker Clause, is legally enforceable.
