Day 3 Plenary Session

Dr Deirdre Hughes will welcome delegates to the final day of the conference. This will be followed by a short talk from our guest speaker Sandra Cheyne from Skills Development Scotland.

Our keynote speaker is Dr Anthony Mann who will discuss;

Career guidance: from good practice to effective delivery

Anthony will be presenting new OECD work on the career readiness of young people globally as they approach the most turbulent labour market in a century. A new working paper, Career Ready? How schools can better prepare young people for working life in the era of COVID-19, will draw on analysis of national longitudinal datasets to show how long-term employment outcomes are linked to what teenagers think about their futures in work, how they explore their possible working futures and what direct experiences they have of workplaces. Data is then drawn on from the 2018 wave of the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) to show whether 15 year old students are exhibiting attitudes and experiences that are linked with greater career readiness. The presentation ends with the introduction of a new OECD project that aims to build on the findings to create new guidance and indicators for countries, schools and career professionals.
