CHAMPIONING CAREERS DERBY: A NEW CITY-WIDE CAREERS STRATEGY
On Monday 10 February 2020, a ‘pre-launch’ of the above-mentioned new careers strategy took place in Morley Hayes, Derby.
Secondary Schools/Academies/College Headteachers, Careers Leaders, Derby College Leaders and the Post-16 Advisory Group received an overview of major research findings on the state of careers provision for young people across the city. The energy and enthusiasm in the room to do more to address inequity in young people and parents/carers’ access to high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) was truly inspiring!

DMH Associates was commissioned to lead on this work, in partnership with Dan Gray (Senior Lecturer) from the Youth and Careers Team, Nottingham Trent University, as well as Marin Rogers and Charlotte Thurston (Researchers) from Education and Employers.
This ‘pre-launch’ will be followed by a major launch across the city in the coming month(s). Derby city is a special place, the Opportunity Area has lots of innovative education projects, there is much to celebrate but the careers eco-system is struggling. A big challenge is how to ensure Gatsby Benchmarks don’t become a simple ‘tick box’ exercise. A detailed Technical Report will be presented at the launch event. Watch this space!
