SKILLS NORTHERN IRELAND 2018: BRIDGING THE SKILLS GAP FOR NORTHERN IRELAND’S YOUNG PEOPLE AND FAMILIES WITH CAREERS, JOBS, SKILLS AND APPRENTICESHIPS
It’s estimated that around 80,000 job opportunities will become available in Northern Ireland every year for the next ten years, with around 29,000 of these jobs needing to be filled by people leaving education or training. *Ulster University’s Northern Ireland 2017 Skills Barometer “Skills in Demand” report
With Brexit looming, and predictions of stronger immigration controls, employers will rely even more on young people to create their skilled workforce. Therefore, educators must prepare students with the necessary skills to fill the demands of employers. This year, Deirdre Hughes is working with the Prospects Events team to undertake an online survey of N.Ireland young people in schools and colleges to capture there views about jobs, salaries, Brexit and other topics.
Skills Northern Ireland is a highly innovative and interactive prestigious two day event, taking place at the Titanic Exhibition Centre, Belfast. It connects young people to jobs, skills and opportunities now in the future.
The event is aimed at 14-19 year olds, and teachers, parents and influencers helping young people to decide how to achieve the career of their dreams and/or make good decisions about their future learning and work.
A visit will ensure young people get the best possible start to their career journey through employer encounters, impartial careers information and advice and, most importantly, opportunities to gain ‘hands’ on experience of the world of work.
