AI AND THE FUTURE OF CAREERS PROVSION: WHAT’S NEXT

This article published in the April edition of the Career Development Institute’s (CDI) monthly journal Career Matters issue 13.2 is a think piece aimed at provoking thoughtful dialogue on the evolving integration of AI into career guidance.
The article has been written by Dr Chris Percy a visiting research fellow at the University of Derby and Deirdre Hughes OBE, Associate Professor at the Institute of Employment Research (IER) University of Warwick. Deirdre and Chris are both co-founder directors of CareerChat UK Ltd.
The article sets out to explore possible future scenarios in the world of career development and makes proposal as to how careers professionals can remain at the forefront of these advancements.
The article concludes by claiming that careers development professionals must stay at the forefront of these AI advancements. The authors stress the importance that AI technologies are harnessed properly to ensure that they are used ethically and responsibly. By combining a human centred approach with AI’s analytical power career practitioners will be able to offer personalised and scalable support to individuals who are trying to navigate the complexities of today’s job markets.
