A DYNAMIC APPROACH TO LINKING CAREERS INTO THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM

I recently came across this really interesting ‘Training the Trainers’ approach, designed by Gerard Liston at the Forum Talent Potential – http://www.forum-talent-potential.org/wp-content/uploads/getting-started.pdf

This tried-and-tested approach offers innovative Careers Leadership training, including open access to content-rich resources within a massive open online course (MOOC) that enables teachers and careers advisers to put the Gatsby principles into action in the school environment i.e. bringing together theory, research and practice into the classroom.

Forum Talent Potential supports a flexible, six-step process that builds the capacity of schools to bring curriculum learning to life in partnership with local employers:

• Used as part of the Gatsby National Benchmarks Pilot by schools in the North East to demonstrate good practice in benchmarks 4 and 5
• Offered to schools across the East Midlands alongside a handful of other careers services as part of a £1.5m ‘Careers Local’ programme
• Described as ‘best practice’ by the author of the Careers & Enterprise Company’s report on ‘Careers in the Curriculum: What Works’
