THE GOOD WORK PLAN – UK EMPLOYMENT LAW CAME INTO EFFECT APRIL 2020

The Good Work Plan is government legislation to bring UK employment law in line with modern ways of working. It’s the result of the independent Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices commissioned by the prime minister.

The government also launched 4 consultations to seek views on the detail of implementing the recommendations, covering:

Over 400 detailed responses were received from stakeholders and individuals. Following consideration of the responses, this plan set out the actions the government agreed they would take to implement the recommendations. At the heart of Matthew Taylor’s recommendations was an overarching ambition that all work should be fair and decent and for employers to offer opportunities that give individuals realistic scope to develop and progress.

As a result the first employment law changes have come into effect as of 6th April 2020.

Effective from 6th April 2020

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis changes to IR35 have been delayed by a year until 6th April 2021
