Deirdre Hughes delivered a keynote address at a major Adult Learning Conference, organised by the Learning and Work Institute, in Cardiff on 16th May 2018. She focused on lifelong learning opportunities and challenges.

She argued for both a national strategy and a regional/local focus on the delivery of adult learning provision customised to meet the needs of adults, families and employers.

The conference entitled ‘People,Place, Partnerships – Delivering Lifelong Learning – Learning for Wales’ was attended by over 100 delegates, including overseas guests and presenters from The Netherlands and Ireland..

Two major research projects carried out in England helped to inform the debate on strategy, priorities and where next when it comes to adult learning in Wales.

The research, led by Deirdre Hughes whilst she was a Principal Research Fellow at the University of Warwick IER, included calls for evidence, a literature review, an adult survey report and town hall consultations. The work was commissioned by the Institutes for Adult Learning.  For more information:
