RISE OF THE MACHINES : AM I STILL NEEDED?
Recent developments in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning have put us on the cusp of a new automation age – the fourth Industrial Revolution. I’m delivering a keynote on this topic today at Aston University talking about innovative ICT developments in labour market intelligence/information (LMI) and careers work.
Around half the activities people are paid to do globally could theoretically be automated using currently demonstrated technologies. Career defined as “a sequence of life and work over time” continues in many different forms. Many young people and adults ask: Where are the jobs? How much can I earn? What are my chances of getting a job at the end of my course? Do I have enough knowledge and skills? What if I don’t have the right paper qualifications? etc. We will be talking about what system and structures are needed at a national and/ore regional level to support individuals with learning and work choices.
