YOUTH VOICE CENSUS

New report on Youth Voice Census  report launches today.

Responses were received from 14-24 year olds (1,498 in total) as they transition between education and employment.

Laura-Jane Rawlins, CEO says “the  census will now become an annual temperature check on young people’s experiences and confidence levels.”

This first census, in partnership with Pearson and The Careers and Enterprise Company, identifies some stark findings in terms of the gender inequality in provision of services for young people. Here are some of the headlines:

At every stage of education young women are getting less access to careers support than young men.

●     Young women are less likely to have work experience opportunities.

●     Young women are 20% less likely to have ever received experiences like CV workshops and visits to university in comparison to young men.

●     75% of young women have never had the option of starting their own business discussed with them

●     Young men are statistically more confident that they know the skills employers are looking for (54%) in comparison to young women (38%).

QUESTIONS

I’m not sure what percentage of the respondents where from England, Scotland, N.Ireland and Wales. Also, how many where male and female? Will try to find out.

I’m a great admirer of Youth Employment UK who regularly keep the spotlight on careers support services for young people.
