DREAM JOBS? TEENAGERS’ CAREER ASPIRATIONS AND THE FUTURE OF WORK

Today (22nd January 2020) the OECD will be launching the first of a new series of publications on issues related to career guidance and the school to work transitions of young people.

Dream Jobs? provides a snapshot of new analysis of PISA 2018 data.  By breaking down the career interests of young people by gender, there are significantly higher levels of concentration of expectations in just 10 jobs than has previously been understood.

The OECD is also able to look at how interests have changed (or not) since 2000 and look at the impact of career development activities on young people’s motivation at school and career thinking.  As a next step, a longer working paper can be expected in the spring.

Later this morning, Andreas Schleicher will be presenting Dream Jobs? at a livestream from the World Economic Forum in Davos.  This can be accessed through the OECD twitter account @OECDEduSkills.  Look out for hashtags #dreamjobs and #futureofwork.  A webinar will follow later in the month.
