The Annual FE Autumn SAR Tasks

For those in Further Education, the Autumn Term means settling down into the new academic year, but for Quality Managers, it also means sitting down to writing the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) for 2017/18.

Recently our Senior Associate Karen Adriaanse, a former Ofsted HMI, spent an afternoon with providers from a Network of Local Authority ACL  providers where she delivered a practical workshop on:

‘How to Write an Effective SAR’

The outcomes for the participants included:

  • being confident that they can link their provider’s SAR to the CIF 2015
  • being able to review the content, structure and style of their previous SAR in preparation for writing their SAR for 2017/18
  • ensuring that their SAR has relevant information and clear judgements – and is useful for all key stakeholders, e.g. governors and staff – not just inspectors
  • having some top tips from the presenter and fellow delegates, and an action plan, for writing their SAR 2017/18.

The delegates said they were pleased that the session was so practical, with plenty of useful activities and discussions. Above all, they valued the top tips and the advice and guidance they took away to help them with the task in hand.
